What Classes Would you like to see repeated?

Happy Last day of November!

Actually if you are on a fiscal year ending on 11/30 like we are at the bank. It's the last day of the year!  Ok actually that's not a good thing.........lol  Accoutants out there will know what I'm talking about.  3 weeks of horrible horrible h*ll starts tomorrow..........lol

Oh well.  Let's talk about more pleasing things.  Have there been classes that are longer than 2 weeks that you have missed that you would like repeated in 2012.  These are the classes that are a little bit too long to have on demand.

If there have let me know and I will con, ummmm I mean ask them to repeat them........lol

Radiant Star -  This was a six week class if I remember right.  Mom's is still hanging in the store.  This is Andrae's sample

Or how about the Bear Paw Class?
8 weeks but you learn some really great skills in this class!

Would you like us to repeat the class we just finished for Christmas but do it in other colors.  The six halves class?

Or how about the BedRunner class?

In the knitting world is there something you want specifically.  Hats again, socks again, snowman again, sweaters, afghans.  You tell me and I'll pass on to Heather to give her ideas!

Ok.  I think those are the classes I can remember I wanted to ask you about, but if there are others then you let me know!

Ok.  no post now til Saturday.  I am having an uncreative week trying to come up with stuff to post and I still have not unloaded the camera from last week!

Favorite Embroidery sites

Last week I introduced you to my favorite Machine Embroidery site, Stitch it Cheap.

I have others also.

My number two site that I go to when I'm looking for embroidery designs is Embroidery Library. is probably my number two site to go to.  http://www.emblibrary.com/   One of the things I love about them is that you can go back into your history and get your designs if you lose them.........lol

The other reason I love Embroidery Library are the projects.  If you go into the library of projects you can find almost anything to make.  When I am down on ideas that's where I go.  From in the hoop projects to Lace, it is the best place to get inspiration and the instructions you need to make gifts!

You can also find a lot of hints and helps through out the site!

Ok.  I am going to skip posting to you on Tuesday.  Stay tuned to Wednesday's post!

I Fail Today at blogging!

I will admit I have kinda fallen down on planning blogs for the week.  We will see what we come up with.

It doesn't always have to be about Quilting and the store?  Does it?

So instead of unloading the camera today.  (ok I won't lie I don't know what I did with it.  I have to go search my purse.  I have a feeling it's still at the store though)  I made Christmas Candy.

Sometimes you just hae to put the long arming and the quilting and the paperwork aside and do other stuff.

I figured if I did not get the candy done my friends would de-friend me not only on facebook but in real life too........lol

So that's what today's blog is about.  Me not writing a blog because I did candy...........lol

I can't even take a picture for you because the camera is missing............lol

Hope you all enjoy the evening and Let's Go Steelers!

Profile: Stitch It Cheap!

Hi Folks

Happy Black Friday to you. Hopefully you are reading this very late on Friday and have spent alot of money helping our economy and if you helped mine I am most grateful to you........lol

Today we are going to profile a company I do alot of business with and that I love. If you have come in for any of my early machine embroidery classes we used her designs! Yes I know I haven't had a class lately. Maybe some day in the future I can figure out something to interest you all and find the time to do it with you!

In the meantime, if you are looking for some great designs check out Stitchitcheap.com

Stitch it Cheap - Eliza and Ashley

Stitch it Cheap is ran by Eliza and she is helped by her daughter Ashley, who also does digitzing of designs.

I asked Eliza some questions so that we get to know her and you can fall in love with her designs like i have!

http://www.stitchitcheap.com/
http://www.stitchitstuff.com/

1) Tell us about what Stitch it Cheap is?

Stitch It Cheap is a subscription embroidery design site. What that means is you pay a small monthly payment (for as long as you like) & you get to download pretty much all the designs on the site for free! We do have special buys that are not included but we have those clearly

marked. 95% of the site is included though.

2) Tell us how much and how to subscribe? Tell us how to sign up for the yahoo group.

It is $12.75 (or less if you subscribe for a longer period of time) per month. You can click on the huge CLICK HERE TO ORDER link on the top of every page on the site.
http://www.stitchitcheap.com/index.html
The Yahoo group is FREE & you can go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/embchatnfreebies/
You need to sign up for a Yahoo account but there is no cost.

3) How did you get started/inspiration.

It was just for fun at first. Then it became more of a passion. I decided to do the subscription site because back in the "old" days sending designs by email was really a pain. Plus I wanted something that was reasonably priced that most everyone could afford. So Stitch It Cheap was born out of that. I wanted everyone to be able to get great designs at a great price.

4) What other crafts hobbies do you have?

I like to garden & I do some digital scrapbooking. I also love photography. More recently I have been exercising a lot trying to get back into shape.

5) Tell us about Eliza the person.

I am married (25 years this December 9th). I have two children, both adults Ash & Brian jr. NO grandchildren yet:-( I also have my two girls (my dogs) Darli (Dachshund) & Tali (Beagle). We also have the worlds oldest & crankiest cat Magic who just turned 16 this year. I enjoy spending time with my family & we love holiday's with all the little kids in the family. I am also a NASCAR junkie. LOVE Dale Jr! Go 88!

6) Who else helps you? How do you find your designs?

Ashley my daughter has come on recently as a part time digitizer. She also does some of our artwork but she does not have much time to do that for us since she is a full time student in a nursing program.
Tech support is my son Brian Jr. If I have any computer issues he is the guy I call.

7) Tease us with upcoming ideas if you can.

We have a really fun scarf idea that hopefully will be up next week. We are in full blown holiday designs now. We have some fun takes on the 12 days of Christmas & Ash is even doing the lettering of the poem for us.

8) Tell us about the history CD’s that you are doing.

I decided that since I was getting asked a lot for past designs that had been retired for some time that I would bring them out & dust them off & get them onto CD's. Over the 7+ years I have done literally thousands and thousands of designs. This collection is great for those who want the full collection in a nice collectible case. It is a great hard copy as well. As we all know that hard drives have that tendency to crash when we least expect it!
It is also a great Christmas present for yourself:-)

9) Finally, anything miscellaneous you would want prospective or current embroiderer to know!

We plan on being around for at least another 7 years. We are continuing to grow & I think there are only bigger & better things on the horizon for us.

If you are a lover of all things machine embroidery check out Eliza's website! Thanks to Eliza for answering my questions and letting me profile her business!

What's New!

Hi

I'm going to change my schedule up a little so that you get to see the new fabrics that came in.  That way if you are out shopping on Friday (and if you are shop with us too!.  if your not then you better be sewing circling and UFO'ing with us!)

The first are flames and kitty cats by Alexander Henry!

The second are some Blank Quilting 108"!  We are getting them in.  We apologize on the back order situation.  We know you love them and want them we just cannot ever tell you when they will be in.....lol

Ok, lastly I will post my favorite new fabrics, however some of you might be offended. Mom did not want me to put this on the blog, but I am anyhow!   Please be open minded and remember that if these were truly offensive then they wouldn't sell them.  Yes, I am going with that excuse.  These are my men fabrics.  We have construction men, firemen, i like to call them nerdy heart men, camping men and cowboys.  They are dressed just scantily.  The picture is not in detail but you will understand what kind of fabrics these are.  These are already selling fast so if you are like me and want to make pillow cases for friends then come in and don't be embarrassed!  These fabrics are fun!  We are all adults, but yes they are hidden back by the Christmas fabrics........lol

Top Notions: Final Post!

Happy Thursday!

Now I will warn you this might be a longer blog than usual, because I saved my favorite for last.

As a long armer, there are so many different threads I could use. When I began, I was stupid and naive and used threads that will remain nameless.  The quality of the thread will make or break your long arming experience.

A lot of the  cheaper threads will cause you to have fuzz which will gunk up your machines.  They fray and cause tension issues.

So you say, what do you use Jenn.  I use Superior Threads www.superiorthreads.com

I love the colors!  I love the quality!  I have met the President Bob Purcell and he is truly one of the good guys.  If you ever have the chance to hear his school of threadology, do whatever, but make sure you attend!  You will have a new appreciation for thread!  This is one of those companies that the customer service is a joy to work with!

Right now we carry:
So Fine - Can be used for Quilting and some Embroidery

Bottom Line - Can be used For Quilting, Embroidery, bobbin, binding and applique

Rainbow:  Used for Embroidery and Quilting.  Rainbow is exactly what you are thinking.  It is a rainbow of variegated of colors!

Treasure:  This is hand quilting thread only.

Alex Anderson's Masterpiece:  This thread is Egyptian cotton at it's best!  Masterpiece can be used for your machine piecing.

I have not mentioned mono poly, king tut, or all the notions that Superior carries!  I could go on and on about all the new products that they are getting in!  Our  goal is to continue to grow my Superior line.  I would like to bring the new So Fine in that is variegated like the rainbow but a little thicker for long arm quilting.  I would like to start bringing more colors of all the threads in and the other lines that they do have.  Give me time and you tell me what you want and I will try to bring more and more Superior in!

We are the ONLY Quilt Store in Western Pa that carries Superior Threads!

Now if you are interested in Superior, check out the website.  They have great notions for long armers, great tension tips and other educational tools.

I told you this was a long post and I haven't done the pictures yet!  They have a great newsletter!  They have a great thread of the month club if you want to try different threads!  I could post so much more information on Superior, but I probably have bored you at this point!

If you have not figured it out I love Superior Threads.  That is why we carry them in our store!

Here are some pictures and remember thread is stash too!

Top Notions: More Thread!

We are a little bit different from other quilt stores in the fact we carry more notions and threads than other stores.

This maybe why we have so many Top Notions that are threads......lol  Everyone has their favorites and you know I try very hard to keep you happy!

Now our good standby thread if you do not want to spend a lot of money or are just doing quick projects is the trustworthy Coats and Clark.  Not only do we have the all purpose line of threads from Coats and Clark.

We also have the Star Machine Quilting Egyptian Cotton.  Also made by Coats and Clark it is the next level higher in piecing thread.  Always make sure you are grabbing the correct Star thread.  Never use the handquilting in your machine.  It will gum it up and you will have to take your favorite machine and beg your technician to fix it and you will be out your baby!    We are carrying the basic colors.  As always ask and we will order other colors!

Now, here is a hint. If you have been quilting for years you know this, but if you are newer you might not.  Your machine might not like a certain type of thread.  Experiement and find your machine's favorite!

Tomorrow, we will cover the last top notion that once again i a thread and my Fav!

Top Notions: Printed Treasures

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Today we are going to talk about one of my most Favorite notions of all time!

Printed Treasures!  If you have been in the store you have seen my opening night @the Consol quilt.  I took only a handful of the pictures I took that night of the Penguins and the arena and made a quilt.  Those were all printed on Printed Treasures.

Yes, they are other brands of the printable fabric paper, but I truley think Printed Treasures is the best!

There is nothing like taking the memories you have captured and creating a truley personal gift for someone! It also gets around the problem that sometimes you cannot find the fabric you want.  Come on NHL;  we want Penguin fabric!  lol

If you ever want to try the fabric you let me know and we will give you a personal Happy Hour.  My next goal is i would like to design an all over design and print several sheets of it and make my own fabric!

Top Notions Day 3!

After a quick break for housekeeping items like newsletter and what's new we are back in our Top Notions blogs!

Today, we are covering two products that every hand quilter needs in their stash.

First up is Thread Heaven.............Yes you can use any Beeswax type product to keep your thread from fraying and tangling, but this is Mom's favorite so therefore what we carry.   Now hint do not give to your felines.  For some reason they love to knock this little box around and you know how easily they hide things on us.  Oh wait, business women to the front.  Let your cat play so you have to come into the store and buy more.  Maybe, I'm actually paying your cats off?  lol

Second item is Star Hand Quilting Thread!  Now I will admit I'm not a Hand quilting or sewing person.  You know I like to stand at my long arm and zip around the quilts.  Shhhhhhhh, I also speed when I piece.......lol  However, I can do both and when I have tried different threads I do prefer the Star.  That's saying a lot when I also carry Treasure by Superior.

If you do not see a color you like then let us know and we can see what other colors to bring into the store.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's Top Notion!

Ok I will admit I am reallty trying to con Mother nature.  If  I schedule a jam packed calendar it will snow and I will have to cancel everything!  So, I'm going to go light on the classes so that it won't snow.  You can thank me later....hahahahhaaha

This Week @ and What's New Combined!

Happy Saturday!  I am combining a This Week @ and a What's New since I have blogs for rest of the week planned out.

If you missed your email this morning.  Here is the link for This Week @  http://www.quiltersdepotpa.com/images/ThisWeek@/thisweek@nov14th.pdf  Make sure you read the info about Supporting our troops!  It could win you a Quilters Depot Gift Card!  Go to the website http://www.quiltersdepotpa.com/ and scroll down to find a link to the information!

I'll probably blog about it before the deadline so stay tuned!

What's new?  Well we got som new Fairy Frost in!  I love these colors!  We are slowly going to try and get as many colors in as possible.  It will be slow but we are working on it!

And we have gotten a bunch of hand quilting stencils in for Anita's November Happy hours.  Here is a picture of just a few of them.

Notions - Sewline and Yo Yo's

I must admit that I did not use many of the Sewline products until I was struggling with the binding on my quilt one day.

At that point I was not doing it by hand but turning it over and using a fancy stitch on the machine.

I needed to keep the ends down and the clothes pin wasn't doing it.  We had the sewline in the store and I had run out of glue!  So I tried one of the Sewline glue sticks.  I fell in Love with it.  What makes it different. Heck, I have no idea!  I just know I like using it.

Do you need a marking pencil, tracing pen or erasers.  Then try the sewline.  The lead pencils are awesome and all of our teachers are using them!  The coolest product in this line that you do not see in the picture is the gift case.  It has the majority of the sew line items that you would want to buy in a nice hot pink container!  They make GREAT Christmas gifts!

Next are yo-yo's!  You either hate YoYo's or love them.  However, I have heard several people admit that they in the past hated to make yoyo's but now that they have the gadget they love making them!  You can make yoyo's for anything.  Anita's dog Scrappy is a yoyo dog.  We have some great patterns for not only the dog but for halloween and for a monkey.  Did you ever see the picture of a bedspread made just in yoyo's?  We have some free sample sheets if you stop in and ask for them!  They come in all sizes and there are even some in other shapes!

Top Notions - Day 1

Today we are going to talk about two of our top notions.  The Itty Bitty Buddy and Zippers.

The Itty Biddy Buddy is a party of the Gypsy Line.  One of the things you will notice about all of the products is that they are purple!  This is a great little notion for your sewing room or for you to take on in the car or plane.  pop it up and you have a handy dandy garbage can.  Throw your threads and wrappings into it and keep your garbage to yourself.  I use mine in the Long arm room to collect all my threads!

Zippers!  If you think about it what would we do without our zippers.  Ok so we probably do not use them a whole heck of a lot in our quilting.  Let's think about this.  Maybe we should be.  How about the next purse you make you add a zipper?  Do you want to make a little change purse.  You would need a zipper then!  Atkinson Zippers are used in purses and in a host of other patterns.  These 14" zippers come in a range of colors and only cost $1.10 a zipper.  If you come into the store you probably can still find a few of the colors for $.99.  I have not figured out how to use them on mouths yet.  If I come up with a pattern for it I'll let you know......lol

Our Top Notions - Kickoff post!

Once again I lost my list!  Thank goodness for my phone so I at least have my to do list......lol

Thank goodness I took pictures of them so I can recreate the list!

In no particular order our top notions are. ( I will tease you as the week goes on with pictures of these notions!)

Superior Threads
Coats and Clark threads
Itty Bitty Buddy
Sew Line
Zippers
Thread Heaven
Yo Yo Makers
Printed Treasures
Star Hand Quilting threads
Star Machine threads

Of course this is just a top ten list.  There's all the needles, pins, rotary cutters, yarn, and other gadgets that we have in the store.  Do you have the above items?  Has your cat or dog spirited away your thread heaven?  Don't laugh it happens to more of us then will admit!

Remember to watch for tomorrow's post and for the next about 5 days excluding Saturday for all your top notions.

First I want to say thank you to everyone who has been crocheting and knitting away for my charity event!

At latest count I have 13 Chemo Caps to donate to a local treatment center and we still have to the beginning of December.

I will admit I'm a little behind on mine.  I need to get my butt in gear.

We will also continue and have a second collection later in 2012 so if you want to make them, don't worry if you miss the first deadline!

Here is a picture of all the awesome work!

Success Stories

Let's end the week with some success stories.

The first, I'm sorry I took the picture of this beautiful quilt and didn't pay attention to who or what pattern she used.  I think I know who it is but if I'm wrong I'll be embarressed!  Yes last week was a long week.  I think I took this on Friday when I was tired and stressed.......lol  I know excuses is all I give you!  However,  how pretty is this quilt!!!!!!!!!!!  Great work!

Next are a couple of our Bed Runner class results!  These are all awesome! Great work ladies!

We have a couple more who need to finish up.  Make sure you bring them in for pictures ladies!

I want it all. But do I have what YOU want.

One of the things we pride ourselves on here at Quilters Depot is that we will order you what you want.

Now we cannot always order ALL the fabrics you want since you might be the only one who wants that Christmas Elvis (no you cannot have it.  it sold out awhile ago)

However, there are ways you can shop on our distributors and then bring us your wishlist or what I like to call our suggestion/idea list.  There are so many different products that we sometimes miss things.

Yesterday, I did a writeup on Quilting Treasures(http://www.quiltingtreasures.com/).  At any time go in and print out what fabrics you want and if enough people like the fabric we will get it in.  Same thing goes for Moda.

Now for notions, your chances of getting what you want is a lot higher.  If you go into Moda (http://www.unitednotions.com/) and checkers (http://www.checkerdist.com/) you can pick out what you need or want and as long as we don't have to order a whole lot of them we will special order for you.

A lot of the fabric designers have the same type of websites for you.  If we have an account with them or if we can get the fabric from one of our other distributors it will give us ideas of what types of fabrics you want us to carry!

Am I evil to tempt you like this.  Of course.  You all know that about me by now!  (insert evil cackling witch laugh)

Survey Time............Quilting Treasures!

Attention!  It's time to shop, but I need help!
I love Quilting treasures fabrics.  I absolutely love everything they have.

It's time to pr-order for spring! However, I need your help!

This is difficult though because the fabrics are just being released for the first time in December and I the only pictures I have are the ones in our catalog.  You can come in at anytime when I'm in the store and see the catalog also if these pictures are too hard to see.

Snoopy?

Scuffy the Tugboat?

Thomas the Tank Engine?

Loralie and Hey Cupcake?

Puppies and kittens?

Sorry if the pictures aren't the greatest.  Come in and take a look at the catalog and tell us what you like.  We want to order what you want and just not what I want because I'll never use a whole bolt.....hahahhahaha

Or if you are on the www.quiltingtreasures.com  if there is something existing or something you have heard is being released let us know!  The above fabrics will be shipped in March.  You may find it earlier but I need to get my order in and I just can't decide!

Top Notions?

Hmmmmm, Since none of you listed what your top Christmas ideas are or what you want for Christmas I'll bore you or maybe inspire you.

According to a distributor's website some of the top notions out there are:

Lil Twister and Twister patterns and templates!

Rotary Cutters

Rotary Blades

Batting

Rulers - I can't even list all the rulers that are on the hot list!  Every size and shape seems to be selling.

Seam Rippers

Cutting Mats

Now look at this list, the awesome things that is the top notions are things we use every day in our sewing. Ok, except for the twisters and those are just fun items. So how is your cutting mat? Do you need a new one? Are you cutters in good shape. Are you stocked up on your replacement blades? Do you need a new ruler. I know I do since I ran one over with the long arm..............lol

This is just a taste of what you might need for Christmas!

Next week I will tell you what our hottest notions are in the store. I will even provide you with some pictures so you know what you are shopping for........lol
