April 2012 Classes!

Happy Friday!

We made it!  Ok I think we did.  You might not want to see me at the end of UFO tonight.  I might be on the couch letting you all work hard..........lol

I am going to start tonight promoting our April Classes.  I'll continue next week!

First are our Quilting classes!

First is Quilting 101.  This month we will be doing it on Thursday evenings!  We are limiting the class to 4 people so that all our newbies can get more attention!  We will continue to rotate this class.  Tell us what is best for you and we will try to schedule it!  I hope to have some new success stories pictures real soon to show you all the different looks these blocks will produce!

Quilting 101:  7 Week Class.  Starts Thursday, April 5th!  $65 +supplies  Teacher: Pauline

Our second class is a Trail Rail Quilt!  You have seen this one hanging for about a month in the store.  It is a GREAT stash buster quilt!  You will be amazed how quickly you can make this quilt!  This will be about the only time I will tell you to bring your stash in for your class.......lol

Triple Rail Quilt:
Two week class, $20 +supplies, Teacher is Peggy Gibson

Session 1: Tuesday, April 10th and 27th (note you have a week off between classes) @1pm to 4pm.

Session 2: Friday, April 20th and 27th @6pm to 9pm!

The last class we will promote today is the Fun & Done!  This class took off the last time we offered it!  Would you like to learn another way to quilt as you go?  Or if you have tried other types it's time to try this one!  We will be doing the 101 pattern, but there are tons of patterns that you can expand into!  If you have done the first pattern and would like to pick one of the other patterns to make, feel free to take the class again!
The first picture will be the Teacher's sample and then I will also put some of the success stories also!

Fun & Done
 3 Week Class!

Saturdays, April 21st, 28th and May 5th!  $35+supplies.  Teacher: Peggy Gibson

Next week I'll review more of the classes!  Remember get registered for these since they start early!

Success stories Part 2

We made it to Over the Hump Day!  Can we make it to Friday?  Maybe seeing some success stories will help you!

This is a success story from our paper piecing class!  Yes these pictures are the ones I forgot to download last weekend.  When Mom uses her camera I get caught in the fact I'm always a week behind since I have not taken off the date stamp..........lol

Our second success story is a quilt a customer made for a bridging ceremony for the boy scouts!

The backing is one of our new ones!  Come in and get it for the boy scout in your life!

Great Work Everyone!

Remember to bring those finished projects in and you also can be in my blog!

Success Stories @Quilters Depot! part 1

Happy Tuesday!

Today we are going to share my favorite success stories!  The ones that involve the kids!
Our three kids 101 students this round finished in 6 weeks!  1 week earlier than planned!  Check out these awesome quilts.  All of us are very very proud of these kids and their quilts!

If you want to have your kids or grandkids learn how to quilt this is the class.  Will repeat later in the summer as soon as we plan who the new teacher will be and what quilt they are going to teach your little quilters!  We would like to thank Andrae for her 2 rounds with the kids.  You did an awesome job with them!

We also have some plans maybe for a intermediate or advanced beginner class.  Depends on what terminology you prefer.......lol

So here they are!  All mothers gave permission to us to use their faces!  lol  So this way you can see their proud faces along with their quilts!

I am proud to say these first quilts put some of my now quilts to shame!  Great work kids!  Hope you continue to love quilting as much as the rest of us do!

What's New @Quilters Depot

Hi all!

Won't say Happy Monday.  It's been a yucky day even though the weather is not bad. Sometimes you have to do things as an adult, as an employee, or even as an employer that just causes you undue stress.  Today was a bunch of those things put together!

However, on the bright side of the store.  Look at the awesome things that came in last week!

First, Superior Variegated So Fine!  I am in LOVE with some of these colors so be warned I will be pushing it on you who I do quilting for.........lol    You can't tell how beautiful these are in the picture but would I lead you astray?  So come in and check these out!  They are on the white rack with the other So Fines!

Next Comes the fabrics!  These balloons are sooooo awesome!  Heather is already making a bargello out of this for the store sample!

These are beautiful fabrics!  Make a bargello maybe with some solids or marbles.  Makes great accents and great backing!

Two of these are kids fabrics, the red is an early or late (depends on your view) Christmas fabric.

I love my patriotrics!  Need a quick quilt or wall hanging.  Throw a border around this and go to town or great for placemats!

I am drooling over these.  4 colors 8 shades of sparkles!  I want that pink really really bad.  Not sure what other than for my stash but once again can you imagine a bargello out of this or a 101 quilt!

Some Orientals for your viewing and quilting pleasure!
Now you know I do not take notes as I log in and take notes.  Should I?  Maybe.  lol

Some of these fabrics are $8.50 a yard.  I'm not going to tell you which ones (even if I knew. hahahaha). If you like these come in and snatch them up and the bonus will be they are an awesome price too!

Knitting this Week with Jenn and this week @Quilters Depot

Happy Sunday everyone!

I'll get to the excuses as to why there is not a finished cardigan in a minute.

First here is the link for this week @Quilters Depot.  Due to laziness by the time I get home on Saturdays this will be a staple on the Sunday blog with my knitting updates............lol   http://www.quiltersdepotpa.com/ThisWeek@/thisweek@march26th.html

Now for the excuses.  I have no finished cardigan this week. :-(

a)it was too freaking hot to have a wool sweater sitting in my lap.
b)it was too freaking hot to have a wool sweater sitting in my lap.
c)paperwork, paperwork, paperwork.
d)it was too freaking hot to have a wool sweater sitting in my lap.
e) i had to rip out my arm :-( and start it over.

Now I did knit.  Ok.  One night I knitted.  I worked on my helmet liner a little bit so that I didn't go stir crazy by not knitting and then Saturday i was working on it and realized i'm a dummy and somehow i screwed it totally up.  A whole in the armpit and i was knitting inside out.  sigh. So I ripped.  I think i have 20 some more rows.  it's cool today.  hopefully after I do all the paperwork I can knit during hockey and my favorite show Once Upon a Time.

So ummmmm I promise to have a finished picture next weekend! If not you can yell at me!

Job openings @Quilters Depot!

Last month I posted I needed a sales associate/teacher.

I have not been able to fill the position.

So I am going to try making these two separate positions.

1) Sales Associate wanted.  - minimum wage.  Day light hours which means anytime from 10am to 6pm.  Flexible.  We usually do 3 to 4 hour shifts.  15 hours maximum a week usually less unless during shop hop......lol  Must be able to quilt.  We are a working store which means when not doing the mundane chores of a quilt shop our sales associates work on samples for the store.

2)Intermediate Teacher -
The teacher I am looking for is what I think is holding up my hiring.
I've been spoiled with the teacher I'm replacing.  I am looking for someone who can do classes to replace Andrae.  If you have taken one of her classes you know I'm talking about intermediate classes like the woven placemat, the irish chain, the radiant star, Eleanor Burns Quilts, etc.

You propose what you want to teach.  Should be able to teach day and night but will accept night and saturdays instead.  Interested in teaching a kids 101 class would be great too or some other kids classes.

Basically, if you see a pattern you like, a concept you like etc you give me a proposal.  I accept and then you make a sample and then we schedule the class!  Usually, I only require one class a month or every other month.  I am a little bit of a slave driver.  I sooooo wish i had more time so I could teach! Darn paying the bills with my real paycheck...........lol  Actually, I lie.  I am not anywhere near the skill level that my teachers are..........lol

If interested in either/or/both positions let me know or let mom know.  We require an interview with you with samples of your work.  We can then talk about other specifics at that point!

Success Stories @Quilters Depot part 2

So I split the success stories up because the second set are our Knitting 101 students!  We have two younger students and we have a little bit older student.

I just want you to see how well and how easily you can learn to knit.  I mean I did it.  These girls are doing it!  So can you!

First up is Jenn - good name for a knitter (hahahahahaha).  Jenn is our sales associates daughter.  Here are her scarves!  Awesome work!  Now Jenn is working on hats!

Next up are our first set of Quilting 101 Girls.  They are now knitting!

Awesome work ladies!  You can tell the difference from washcloth #1 to #2 which I think is awesome!  And our second young lady washcloth looks awesome also!  I love seeing the younger generations (man I'm old) pick up the crafty stuff that we love to do!  I forgot to add.  the purple ones smell like grape!  Our young student died her white wool with koolaid and got these beautiful colors and smells!

Keep up the great work and see you on the 31st for your next class!

What's New @Quilters Depot!

FABRIC FABRIC FABRIC!  and some yarn!

I'll start with the Yarn!  Are you a knitter?  Make a Sock Monkey!   I think you may find a crochet pattern somwhere too.
This takes me back to being a little girl.  One of my aunts gave me a sock monkey and i loved that thing!  Wonder if it still up in the attic.  I might have to go exploring.  If I don't return in a week send in help!  lol

This yarn are the colors that make the Sock Monkey.  We also have free knitted patterns!
Maybe we can have a party for our Monkey's!  We can pay homage to Davey Jones and oh wait am I rambling and getting off track again?  lol

Next come the fabrics!

The first two are 108's!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then we have the regular.  I really need to start making notes.  One of these sets are a lower price and then the others are regular price.  Sorry I really do not remember which ones are which.  So that means you have to stop in and see..........lol  No that's not a ploy I am really needing a brain transplant or a memory upgrade........lol

So stop in and check it out!

Penguin Fun!

Ok.  I am a little low on things to blog about this week.

Now you all know we closed early last week so Mom and I could have a night off and go to the Pens game!

I took some pics of the Civic Arena (sad pics :-(  )  and some of the new Mario Statue. Only one good one came out but I thought I'd share with you!

Yes this had nothing to do about quilting!  lol

Ignore the people's faces we don't know.  Was too crowded to wait for a clear picture!

Knitting This Week and this Week @Quilters Depot.

Happy Sunday!

My first sleeve is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So my goal for next week is to have the bottom done.  I have 13 more rows to go before I can do the ribbing.  So I at least want to be ready to start ribbing.  If I get really with it maybe a second arm.  I highly doubt it though.  I set these goals and haven't been making them!  lol  Jeez I had to come edit this because i forgot to give you this picture.  Duh you might think I'm lying about how far I am if I don't prove it!....lol

This year's them is hearts! (last year was butterflies).  Every block has to have a heart somewhere on it.

First, thank you for all who have already brought blocks back!  If you still want to make one or some you have until June to get them done!

Come in and talk to Pauline if you are interested.

Check out these blocks!  Awesome work everyone!  You all are very talented!
