I heard about this effort to provide quilts to
our armed forces members from a lady in the Mon Valley Quilt Club this week. As you know I have done long arm quilting for them and we have done quilts for a local organization also.
"The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover ALL those
service members and veterans touched by war with Wartime Quilts called Quilts
of Valor (QOVs).
This foundation is not about politics. It's
about people." QOFV has donated over 84,000 quilts to our soldiers,
including more than 200 already in May.
QOVF wishes to accumulate enough donated blocks
to make 100 quilts to celebrate their 10th anniversary by November, 2013.
They have a very easy block pattern posted on
their website for this purpose. See below for picture! Hopefully it is big enough to see! Not only does the block work up quickly, but the pieces
are small enough to come out of your scrap basket! The QOVF asks only that
the colors in the block be red, white (or cream) and blue. If you decide
to make a block to support our armed forces, they ask that you mail the block
to:
Karen Demaree, QOV Director, PO Box 628,
Platteville, WI. 53818.
We are also collecting the blocks and will them mailed out for you as we get ours done. I am putting a deadline of August 1st on this so we can get them mailed out in time!
You can check out their website at: www.qovf.org (Be careful
typing in the address. QOV is an unassigned name and qovf.com is an oriental website! Here you can see their mission, photos of soldiers with their
quilts, additional patterns, etc.
This is a way to support our troops doing
something we love. Hope you decide to participate.
I would like to thank my friend Getta from the Mon Valley Quilt club for forwarding and I basically copied her email into my blog for the information. I did change a few things..........lol I hope that you will all take an hour or two out of your time to help our soldiers!
remember our troops!
