If you are hesitant about using rulers, you will love them after this class. Learn to handle rulers and templates safely and properly with the ruler base, as well as how to work with rulers to achieve amazing designs. Friday, 9/11 2 to 5pm How Do I Quilt it
Largely a collaborative class, this is an opportunity to bring quilt tops that have you stumped and leave with multiple design options. Learn how to select, resize, preview and apply designs; explore border options; and discover new design resources. Give your quilt tops new life with designs just waiting to hop on. Saturday, 9/12 9 am to noon Start with a Stencil
Transform a basic stencil design from ho hum to extraordinary. Watch the skeleton come to life as you add extended and secondary designs, fills and special effects. Learn to make your own stencils as well as useful tips for marking your quilts. Skills Featured: • Designing your quilt using stencils • Methods for embellishing basic stencil designs • Making your own stencil • Marking quilts with stencils • Repeating designs for special effects
Saturday, 9/12 1pm to 4pm. Creative Textures and Fills
Once you learn rulers, you won’t want to miss this class. Fills are creative design elements used to quilt the background and empty spaces of a primary quilting or block design. Whether elegant, whimsical, structured, or meandering, there is a style to compliment every space. Skills Featured: • Effects produced by variety of fill designs, in relation to primary design • Selecting appropriate fills to compliment design style • Scaling the fill design size appropriately • Evenly placing and spacing fills • Effectively using HQ Micro Handles
Event 2 Educator : Debbie Brown
Debby Brown has been a Handi Quilter educator since 2005 and has inspired quilters all around the globe. In addition to teaching atretail shop events and guilds, Debby teaches at major quilt shows nationally and internationally, including International Quilt Festival (Houston), Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC), International Quilt Show Dubai, and American Quilters Society (Lancaster, DesMoines). She recently filmed a series of DVDs about sit-down machine quilting featuring the HQ Sweet Sixteen®.Since Debby began quilting in 1986, she has completed several thousand quilts for herself and others. When not busy teaching, she is constantly creating in her studio in upstate New York. She and her husband were just promoted to “grandma and grandpa” and are very enthusiastic about their new roles! Debby writes a popular quilting blog, Quilty Pleasures (higheredhands.blogspot.com). She regularly uploads quilting videos to YouTube (debbybrownquilts).
