Charity Update!

As you know Mom/Pauline is doing another round of charity quilts this year.

This year's them is hearts! (last year was butterflies). Every block has to have a heart somewhere on it.

First, thank you for all who have already brought blocks back! If you still want to make one or some you have until June to get them done!

Come in and talk to Pauline if you are interested.

What's New @Quilters Depot

Happy Monday!

Last week the first round of new fabrics have started coming in! One of the things I love about spring in the Quilting Business. The Newer fabrics have started to arrive from the distributors! In the past two week's I've met with at least 5 of them. Some of that will be in between now and May. Others are late summer! Christmas is already ordered for this winter. UGH! That's the only thing I hate about buying fabrics. I have to pick out next year's Christmas in January.

check out some of these great new fabrics that I logged in on Friday night!

This first one is a kitty book! or cut the blocks out and make a quilt! Either way come in and check out this panel. It's absolutely adorable!

Check out the black Oriental! I am in love with this one! And you cannot quite tell but the second bolt is a Greenworking fabric!

This is the Boy Scout Fabric! 4 bolts of coordinating fabrics! Can be used for patriotic or make your favorite Boy Scout or Boy Scout leader a quilt or pillow case!

Here are some really pretty VIP Blenders.

VIP has made a splash with this fabric. Sleeping Beauty and prince! Also two coordinating bolts of Pink and Purple to make that princess in your life! Awesome Pillowcase potential!

This last bolt is absolutely gorgeous! I love blues but this fabric is just stunning!

Now, I do not remember what the prices on all of these are but I do remember some were $8/yard, some were $9 and then some was more. The $8 and $9 dollars is still pretty unheard of so make sure you come in and check out these new fabrics!

This Week @ and Knitting This week!

Sorry I did not post the link to this week @ yesterday. I forgot during the day and I went out to dinner with a friend that evening. When I got home I had to start writing the newsletter and completely forgot.

Now more importantly is how is my cardigan coming along?

Not bad. I am almost to the bottom, but I took a break from that to learn how to do the arms. My goal for this week is to finish the bottom and have half of an arm done. We'll see if it happens. I've bad lately and not hitting goal............lol

The arm looks a little stubby at the moment..................lol Knitting is the first time in my life I will say being vertically challenged is a good thing. My socks were smaller so quicker to make. My arms are shorter and so is my torso so that my cardigan will not be as big as others...........lol Not that I will finish before others. Just I dont' have to knit as much..........lol I really want this cardigan done!

March Classes = Happy Hours!

Seems appropriate that I am reviewing our happy hours on a friday..........lol

First is a brand new happy hour w/Peggy Gibson on Binding! I think this at times can be the most daunting item on your quilt until you learn how to do it! Come on in and get a review/hints or learn how to do it! No more need to buy that packaged stuff from that store I will not name! lol

When: Tuesday, March 20th @ 1pm or Wednesday, March 21st @ 6pm. Cost = $FREE$

Our second happy hour for the month is a repeat of the ITool w/Pat
This is one of the coolest gadgets out there right now. Make buttons. Make accessories to go with your yo-yo's. You can make some really cool items such as rings and headbands with this tool! Come in and fall in love with it!

When: Monday, March 12 @1pm, Monday, March 26th @11am and Wednesday, March 28th @6pm.

March Classes - UFO's and Sewing Circles.

Happy Thursday everyone!

There is nothing like the feeling of putting that last stitch into your project and declaring it done!

Need some time to do that? Come to our UFO's and sewing circles and work on those projects that are piling up!

We are loaded with UFO's this month! 3 of them! Come spend your Friday nights with us and have some pizza and laughs! The first UFO is tomorrow night!

3 UFO's are:
Friday, March 2nd, 16th, and 30th. Price is $8 to cover pizza! UFO starts at approximately @5pm until you tire out! (ok usually 9pm........lol)

Sewing circles are UFO's just during the day........lol

March Classes - Watercolor by Whims and Beginning Paper Piecing!

Happy Leap Day Everyone!

Today we will review our Watercolor by whims class and our Beginning Paper Piecing Class!

First Watercolor by Whims are kits that all the pieces come pre-cut to make stained glass looking kits. If you register by this Saturday @3pm and come in to do it you will get to pick out what kit you want. If not you will get whatever I order on Saturday night! lol This class is a four week class! Thursdays, March 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th @ 6pm. Teacher is Andrae Lowery and price is $30 + supplies! Below are pictures of two of the kits we had carried and sold out of.

We are very excited to have out next class on the Schedule. Beginning Paper Piecing! If you have been in the store you have seen the really cool projects that you can do by paper piecing. From book covers or a placemat, or to making a quilt now is the time to learn this great technique. This class will repeat when time allows throughout the year.

Class is 2 weeks long.
Session 1 = Tuesday, March 6th and 13th @ 2pm to 4pm.
Session 2 = Wednesdays, March 7th and 14th @ 6pm to 8pm

Price is $20 + supplies. Teacher = Peggy Gibson

March Classes - Quilting 101 and Irish Chain

You have all been very patient with us as we re-designed our Quilting 101 class!

Well, it's back and better than ever!

You will learn all the basics in this 7 week class!

Fabric Selection, Rotary Cutting, Machine Piecing is just the beginning. Learn how to do this great 9 block quilt. We will teach you the basics and tell you about other ways to do the same technique. The class will also cover quilting options and binding!

Class Starts on Wednesday, March 7th @ 1pm to 4pm. Price is $65 + supplies. Teacher is Mom/Pauline! Please make sure you do know how to use your sewing machine! The class will repeat in April during the evening!

Next class up to review is the Irish Chain. March is the 3 Rivers Quilt Show and we want you to know what you are looking at! Come in and learn how to make a great Irish Chain! 3 spots left in this class! Don't miss out on this one!

4 week class. Tuesdays, March 6th, 13th, 20th and 27 @ 6pm to 9pm. Teacher is Andrae Lowery and price is $35 + supplies

March - Knitting and Bargello Class

I promise you next Monday I will post all the success stories I should have posted today.

Instead I will give you March classes!

Let's start with Knitting. I am starting with knitting because both knitting events start this Satruday, March 3rd.

First is PHD. (projects half done). You've seen my sweater. It's half done! I'll be there! Our regular knitters will be there too. Working on Sweaters, socks, etc. Are you a knitter who needs just some help with a project. Maybe just a time to sit and actually knit without people bothering you? You want some laughs? Our group is known for our good times!

Stop in on March 3rd, 17th or 31st from 9:30 am to 11:45 and get your projects done! $15/session. Teacher is Heather Metzger.

Our second Knitting is for you who want to knit! KNITTING 101! This class is for kids of all ages. Whether your a tween, teenager, young adult or grandma, this is the class for you to learn how to use those knitting needles. Class starts this Saturday, March 3rd at noon! Register NOW! it is a three week class and will continue on the 17th and 31st.

Next we will talk about our very hot class! Bargello! We are having such success stories with this class. Many ladies have come who have never sewn before and will walk out with an almost completed quilt top. Usually just the borders need added. Now the added bonus to this class is that you get a second class at your convience to finish the borders, learn how to quilt your quilt top and if time permits binding.

Once you learn how to make one of these quilts it's going to be your saving grace when you need a quick gift or charity project!

tomorrow we will talk about the first half of our quilting classes! Stay tuned to the same bat (ok for some reason that slipped out. I'm getting old!) channel and same bat time for more of our March classes!

Knitting This Week!

Happy Sunday all.

I'm sitting here getting ready to watch hockey game and flip to the Daytona 500! Go Tony and Dale Jr!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and of course write my blogs for you!

So I've been working on my cardigan. I am now on the bottom half of the sweater. It should go much quicker! My goal is to have that done so that next week at PHD I can start the arms!

And yes, being typical me I couldn't do it all in one color................lol

Now I will warn you I forgot the camera at the store when I left on Saturday so this is the only picture you will get this week. I did this off my phone since so many of you yelled at me for having no picture last weekend. At least this week you can tell it's a sweater! lol

The all NEW Quilting 101!

We have been spending the past couple of months re-designing our quilting 101 class.

And Yes we will probably still be working on the manual the night before class starts......lol

However, let's take a closer look at the quilt you will be making. The only pre-requisite for this class is that you know how to use your sewing machine and make a quarter inch seam! If you have taken 101 before or are more than a beginner you can also take the class.

We are doing a 9 block sampler.

You will learn how to pick your fabric, how to cut your fabric, and make the blocks. You will be given just not one way of doing things. Everyone has different techniques, hints and shortcuts that make their quilting enjoyable to them. You will be taught one way but given the options to do things a different way!

Want to learn how to quilt? This is the class for you! It is seven weeks but it will be worth it!

Here is the picture of the quilt you will be making. You choose the fabrics you want to use!

Sign up now! Class starts Wednesday March 7th for 7 weeks @1 to 4pm.

Last week we had another bargello class!

If you have not taken this class you would love it! From people who have never quilted before to experienced quilters everyone loves this fast quick class!

Knitting Update and What's New!

Ok. I am combining these two posts because

a) I did not take pictures of any of the stuff that came in this week. Basically everything was refills. No new pretty fabric.........lol However, you know the store is loaded with pretty fabrics.

b) I did knit this week. However, i think it is goofed up and did not take any pictures because it looks pretty much like it did last week. it's growing but you can't tell what it is yet.......lol Hopefully, Tuesday night Heather will fix me up and I can continue. Don't ask me what I did. I have the right number of stitches just two rows earlier. So that means I screwed up counting or i really added stitches that I shouldn't have. I'm going to say the first, but who knows.

Did i post about this already. I swear I'm losing my mind! By looking back I know I did but was hard to read. I must have copied something from somewhere and what you get is hard to read.

What's New @Quilters Depot

We have a couple new bolts this week. These first ones are 108" wides. The whites on all tonal white 2 are vines and i think one is stars. The second bolt from the left is a Stonehenge backing.

The last two bolts are also Stonehenge. However are the regular 44" wide.

You will see this next week in the newsletter, but am doing it in more detail here.

Times change. One employee has left. One more Teacher will be.

We have one new Sales Associate/Teacher = Peggy. Alot of you know Peggy from 3 Rivers Quilters! She has some great ideas coming up for classes in the next few months.

Our knitting teacher, Heather is now working as a sales associate also. You will see her some weeknights and Saturdays when she is not teaching!

However, I need more help! Yes I'm hiring. For some reason my employees do not want to work 24/7 and they want vacations. Can you believe that! lol I need one more sales associate/teacher.

So before you start jumping up and down.

If you are interested here are a few requirements:

Must have access to email (this is how I schedule and communicate with my employees since I'm not always at the store.)

Be an intermediate skilled level quilter.

Be able to work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, afternoons, evenings and sometimes saturdays.

Want to teach and be able to plan, compile and execute samples and instructions for those classes.

Be able to use a computer. Be able to follow the rules of the store,

Be willing to do anything. We are a working store that means working on samples and projects while at the store. We also sometimes ask you to dust, straighten shelves, make coffee, and do dishes. (I am such a task master!)

How much Thread do you need to longarm.

This is a great question.

I actually saw the answer on Superior's newsletter this month.

Whether you are a long arm quilter or you hire someone, you need to know how much thread to buy.

Here is what Superior Threads (http://www.superiorthreads.com/) has to say.

These amounts are if you are just using the thread on one side. Double the amount if using for bobbin and top thread. The numbers represent yards of thread. Read the numbers this way: Light Quilting/Medium Quilting/Heavy Quilting. These are averages since everyone quilts differently.

Lap/Crib Size     200yds/400yds/600

Twin Size            400/800/1200

Queen Size          600/1000/1600

King Size             700/1500/2000

Always know how much thread to buy now!

What's New @ Quilters Depot!

Did you all see our Pickles cartoon fabric a couple of week's ago?

We got in the second piece of the line. A larger panel! These cartoons are just hilarious!

Next in the what's new is that we now have some Superior King Tut thread in! I can't afford all of the colors right now! Nor do we have the room........lol However, I have gotten some of the neutrals and colors I think you may like. For those who don't know. King Tut is a 100% Egyptian cotton that can be used for all machines including long arms!

Next we got some more 100% wool felt in for those who have been asking for it! And we got some more colors of solid towels in!

Last but not least one lone bolt of fabric came in. A customer suggested this because it looks like cracked ice. Great for those hockey or scenic quilts.

I think that is what's in......lol I know I restocked most of the superior, cutting blades, the large rotary cutter.

Knitting this Week!

Hi all.

Well this week I have been working on making my second helmet liner. This one will be for Dad's birthday that is coming up. This will keep him nice and warm when he is out plowing snow (hopefully not this winter though......lol) so that I can get to my jobs.

It is amazing how quickly these knit up! I want to make one more for the troops.

My new project is a cardigan sweater. I dont' have enough to show you, (I had to rip my first 10 rows :-( lol) So I sat back down Saturday night to work on it.

Apparently Abbie is really wanting to knit.

And yes that is all i have done on the cardigan............lol She wouldn't show her face. She was being camera shy.

So this week's goal is to finish my helmet liner. I would like to get to i think row 16, but we shall see.....lol If not i want to start the next helmet liner.

February Classes!

Hi All

I thought I'd spend a couple of days previewing our classes for February.

Today we will do the classes. Tomorrow we will do misc stuff.

Let's start with the Beginner's Applique Class!

This one is really going great! We have had alot of people sign up for the January classes. Now is the time for those of you are evening people! We have 5 already so hurry and sign up. I hope to repeat this class in a few months but if you want it get it now! Class is Thursday, February 16th and 23rd @ 6pm to 8:30. Cost is $25. Teacher. Peggy Gibson.

Next up we have a Love the Log Cabin Table Runner.

Are you a Eleanor Burns fanatic? Do you love table runners? This will be the last time this class is offered! Take it now!!!!!!! Class is 3 weeks long. Wednesdays, February 8th, 22nd and 29th @6pm to 9pm. Cost is #30 + supplies. Teacher is Andrae Lowery

It's Fun & Done Time - Are you a quilt as you go fan? Are you always looking for a different way to do it. There are a lot. Well we will be showing you the Fun and Done way. there are loads of pattern but we will be starting with the first in the line! You can make a placemat or something bigger. It's up to you what you end up with in this 3 week class.

Session 1: Tuesdays, February 7th, 14th and 21st @6pm to 8:30

Session 2: Mondays, February 13th, 20th, and 27th @1 to 4pm

Cost: $ 35+supplies.

What's New @Quilters Depot!

Well first I didnt' take a picture of them but we are loaded with knitpicks.

We have the harmony interchangeable kit back in! We have some extra of the 40", 32" and 24" circular wires. We have some of the separate sizes of the needles. We also got the Acrylic Interchangeables in too! I am excited to try some of these also. As always if you are a knitter and need knitpick items check with us and we will try to order them for you. If you see me standing there fondling the needles just ignore me. It's a sickness. I've controlled fondling the fabric just not the needles yet.

Here are some new fabrics that came in last week. I love the first one!

The second picture are actually Christmas fabrics. You really can't tell from the picture but they are all the sparkly glittery fabrics that you ladies love!

This Week's Knitting!

I finished my helmet liner!

I also have started number 2 in a different color for my dad's birthday party. And no it's not a surprise. I made sure he wanted one before i started.......lol Let's just see if I can get it done.........lol

I did get a comment it looks like a chocolate pac man............lol

If anyone is into wool felt or the bamboo felt check out this basket! We bought wayyyyyyy too much felt when we ordered for the Beginner's Applique classes. It was that or not get the colors we needed for the class!

Quilters Depot BOM 2012.............

Just a quick note that if you waited to sign up for the Mystery BOM for 2012 you waited too long. The BOM is closed. I actually took more people than I said I would.

Those of you who have signed up, I will send an email blast out around March 1st with final details!

Meanwhile here's a sneak peak for those of you who have signed up. I'm working on the blocks as we speak and I took a pic of a partial completed one.........lol And No these are my colors. one of a kind so don't even think about asking for them.............lol However, if i get my butt in gear and still have enough fabrics kits might be available during the summer............lol

Haiti Quilt Update!

Good Afternoon!

As you are reading this the blocks that you donated for the Haitian children have been delivered. Our customer Mary G is in Haiti on her trip!

We would like to thank everyone who helped from you who donated blocks or made a full quilt to the ladies that helped Mary at church put the quilts to together. Or the people who did the binding or Quilting. All of us who helped are making some needy people very warm and happy!

When we do charity events it warms my heart the response that we get from all of you. Mary has promised pictures and I will post them in a few weeks!

Let's see what our customers have done this week!

First we have a great picture of Joann and her quilt! I did the quilting(takes a bow...hahahahaha). Awesome work as usual Joann and good luck with your surgury! We look forward to when you can get back in!

Next we have Ruth's quilt! If I know my blocks these are shop hop blocks! Awesome work Ruth. Hopefully I can quilt this to compliment your awesome work!

Next we have someone's quilt. I will admit not being in the store when pictures are taken I sometimes I have no idea........lol Ok, yes I hear a lot of you saying Jenn, you never have a clue.......lol
Awesome work to the quilter of this quilt! Yes, the pictures are from November. Excuse #2. Mom's camera. I forget to unload it on a timely basis........lol Oh wait! I know what this quilt is. This is a quilt I quilted for QOV! So the quilter is wayyyyyy awesome because she was doing this for the QOV and I'm awesome too! hahahahahahhaa

What's New!

Happy Monday Everyone!

We got some really cool fabrics and notions in last week.

Let's start with the newest cool toy! This little gadget is good for so many things. You can hook it to your ironing board to hold your water bottle or bottle of Best Press. (Did you know if you need the gallon refills we will order the scent that you want if we do not have it in stock?). This gadget is also suppose to fit on your quilting tables so that you can hold that bottle/can of pop or glass of your favorite beverage. No I don't mean that! I mean your coffee or water!

Next we have the sequal to "Chase's Quilt". We now have "The Mess" well we all have a mess probably but it's the book that I am talking about. The pattern is not available yet but we will have them as soon as we can! If you and your grandkids enjoyed the first book come in and grab the second.

We have a new Purse pattern for you to make! This is Me and My Sister's Juliet! Come in and make it in a black and white scheme or try some other colors!

Next is the stuff you really want! The fabrics! We have 3 new ombres for your viewing enjoyment! We also have one bolt of flannel and some jelly rolls. I will admit that the jelly rolls that made it to the shelf are less than pictured. (if you are in the store when I do inventory some of you and my employees really win big......lol) These are very hot and pretty! They flew off the computer as I logged them in last week. However, all colors have been re-ordered and should be in again this week! I promise to take a ruler to my employees so that you will get a chance this time!

My Knitting This Week!

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Hope the sunshine is putting you into a good mood before the rain arrives.

So this week I finished Mom's headband. It fits this time and is not twisted!

And I'm cruising right along on the helmet liner. That's actually a lie. I had to rip 4 times to get the hat part of the liner started. I kept twisting it and I have no idea what but I learned a new cast on by using the awesome wide world web........lol

My goal is to have the hat piece done so all I have to do in class is the ribbing around it. That will enable me to start the one I want to make Dad for his Birthday and get ready for February's cardigan class!

I want to thank those who have already finished one of the helmet liners or more. I can't wait until we are able to pass these on to our soldiers!

Three Rivers Quilters 2012 Quilt Show

Hi all!

Alot of you who are my customers are members of the Three Rivers Quilters. Some of you are not so this is more for you than them. However, I promised I would help to promote the upcoming quilt show on my blog so here I go!

The most important detail is that the theme this year is "Irish Chain"

Second is that they would like you to know you have until Monday, February 21, 2012 to enter the quilt show! Go to their website: http://www.threeriversquilters.org/ to get entry forms and more information!

Dates are: March 29-31st 2012
Thursday March 29th................10 am to 7pm
Friday, March 30th...................10am to 5pm

Success Stories!

My BOM'ers have been working really hard to get caught up since February we will be finishing the quilt! Just in time for my mystery quilt which I have started working on so I dont' mess any of you up! lol

Rest of these pictures are just random. The bright orange quilt was a charity quilt for the Haiti project that we are involved in. Wanted to show a picture of it because it's an awesome quilt by Jane and of my quilting. The last pictures are the charity quilts we will be sending to the humane society for their February ball to auction off!

Knitting Weekly update.

Ok I was hoping to have a finished project to show you here.

I did have it done. It was mom's winter headband, but ummmmmmm I screwed up.

When I took it off the circular needles I ummmmm kinda had twisted it at some point probably the very beginning.........lol So that got ripped out and I have not gotten back to it........lol

What I have been working on is our Charity Project for the troops. It's a knitted helmet liner! If you are a knitter we have the patterns for you. We would love to get at least a dozen of these to pass along. So if your a knitter you still have time to get started. Check with us on the specifics on colors! We will have a class on the 28th at 9:30am for anyone who needs help or would just like to work with a bunch of ladies and have some fun!

I am on the first 6 inches of the bottom of the liner. I think when i measured it i was about 3.25 inches in........lol

Hopefully I will have more inspiring photos next week of stuff........lol

We had a couple new bolts come in.

The first is a book panel!

The second picture is "cheap stuff". I think they are priced at $7/yard! I love when I can get fabrics on sale for you quilters!

The third picture has a cartoon panel. You have to come in and read these cartoons! They are hilarious and sooooooooooooooooooo funny! I think I'm going to make some kind of scrappy quilt that each block highlights one of the cartoons. That is when I find time. It might have to go into my stash for that....lol

Happy Hours!

If you have been at our Happy Hours you know that we have a great time while demonstrating a great technique or tool!

I spent the afternoon on Sunday writing the newsletter for February and have come to the realization that I need ideas for Happy Hours.

Any and all ideas will be considered! I need help though. Is there a tool or technique that you would like to see demonstrated? Is there something you would like repeated? Do you want a real Happy Hour....hahahahhaa that one won't be considered..........lol

In January do not miss our I top tool! Tonight at 6pm is the first session of it! I'm debating whether I want to buy one of these for myself or not!

In February we will be repeating the kanzashi and locker hooking if you have missed those. If your a locker hooking person get your projects ready and bring them in to show off!

Abbie and her yarn!

So last Sunday I went to my cousin's for a family New Year/Steeler Party.

They have two cats Andre and AJ (Andre junior and yes they are named after Fleury!). They are rescue cats that my cousin's MIL saved so they are a little bit unsocial and skittish but getting better every time we see them.

Well AJ loves yarn! I spent a good bit of time playing with him with my yarn ball.

Then when I got home I was like I really have not played with Abbie in awhile.

Knitting update. The Socks are done!

Let's go Steelers

I think each week this post will just be a knitting update post. Then what I'm working on. I have so many projects started and so many projects in my mind that need started!

The socks are done!

Now if you look closely as my teacher guessed the right foot was my first sock. Left foot was the second and you can tell in my stitches. Yes I have a few drop stitches I need to attach, but I have stocked up on yarn to make mom a pair and maybe myself another pair.

Now I have started one of the knitted helmit liners for our troops that is in our charity lineup and i ripped out and restarted mom's headband. So that's two started. No pics of those yet! Next week!

January 2012 Classes continued

Tonight we are going to discuss knitting and our BOM dates.

First our knitting project this month is to start making helmet liners for the troops. I was asked why when our troops have left Iraq. Ummmmm my answer our soldiers will always be somewhere protecting us whether in Germany or somewhere in the US. So our guys will always need helmet liners and we are going to try and make some!

If you already are a knitter pick up the pattern and hopefully by April 15th we will have enough to donate! If you need help come to our Saturday, January 28th class @ 9:30 for $15 and get help from our great teacher, Heather Metzger!

Make sure if you are doing this on your own that you check the pattern out at http://www.packagesfromhome.org/things-to-donate/knittd-helmet-liner and use the right color wool yarn and follow their instructions!

We thank you in advance for helping us support the troops!

BOM schedule:
Muddy Creek block is Friday, January 6th @ 6pm, Saturday, January 7th @ noon, and Thursday, January 12th @6pm

Sew Special is Saturday, January 14th at 9am(note time change) Tuesday, January 17th @ 6pm and Thursday, January 19th @ 6pm.

Thought I would do a review of what is coming up in the New Year.
Our first class is the Woven Placemat: Wednesdays January 11th and 18th from 6pm to 9pm. $30+supplies. Teacher is Andrae Lowery. Hurry to register. this one starts next week! Don't miss it!

The second class is a Beginners Applique:
Session 1: Friday, January 13th and 20th @1pm
Session 2: Tuesday, January 17th and 24th @1pm
Session 3: is in February at night!

The Continuing growing Socks Saga

What's New @ Quilters Depot!

I will say it was a slow week at Quilters Depot last week.

We got a bunch of notions in but they were mostly things that needed to be re-ordered. That means the Kanzashi's are re-stocked. Sorry I ran out. We will be having another happy in February on these. So if you missed it stay tuned.

We did get two bolts of fabric in. They are real pretty batiks!

The other thing that is new is our email system. I mentioned it on Saturday when I did this week @. We are now using Quiltropolis to do our emails. I will get better once I get more time. My hope is to do a bunch of cool html items so that the only thing you will ever have to open in pdf form is our newsletter. That's just too big to program.............lol

Most of you know you see a lot of constant contact emails around. This is like that but in my opinion better. Might be because it's more affordable but then again it's my accounting background talking. Also the family that runs Quiltropolis is fantastic and puts up with stupid questions and works hard to make my experience easier and faster to make your reading easier and more pleasurable.

And that's about all that is new @ Quilters Depot right now!

Happy New Year to all of you out there!

Did you make resolutions? I did and didn't. Most of mine are ones you don't want to hear because I wrote them on a everyone was on my nerves and so was my life day............lol

Hmmmm I did make a couple craft related!

I'm going to finish my first pair of socks and maybe do a pair for mom this year.

I'm going to start my Christmas gifts for 2012 in January and I already know what everyone is getting. Just got to get knitting!

I'm going to give you all a weekly mystery quilt (just don't ask me when it starts I have no idea!)

My project: The Continuing growing Sock

Ok. So I didn't work on it a lot in the past week. Got a lot done on it on Christmas Eve. I was getting frustrated and lost. Thanks to JoAnn for setting me straight Friday night so I was able to continue. Sometimes when you are working on a project and your new to the skill it always helps to have someone there to help!

That leads me to don't forget their is a sewing circle and UFO on Friday, the 30th and on New Years Eve Day there is also a Sewing Circle! Got new projects from Christmas. Get them going! Christmas is right around the corner again............lol

Ok. I got off the subject. Here's my sock! I took a picture of it on my foot so you could see that I am accomplishing something. The second one is just hanging out.........lol

Happy Sunday All

So what are you watching since the Steelers don't play until Monday night and the Pens played last night. Did you watch the game? It was a awesome one!

Me, I'm watching sappy Hallmark Christmas movies as I do my homework! lol

So this week we have a couple new fabrics that have come in!

These are going to be in the lower price range. I know you ladies like those. I'm going to say around $8/yard but there might be a $7/yd in that pile too!

The next one are some new fabrics that are brand new from the distributors This picture has one of my favorites in it. Aren't those Penguins cute! I might have to make another picture quilt and use this as my border. Those whites aren't just white! They have beautiful lines of shimmer in them! The fourth one are cookies and cookie sayings!

2012 B.O.M Announcement

Ok! Here is the announcement you have been waiting for!

Mom and I have decided on our BOM for 2012!

We are going to do a mystery quilt! It will be called the "Light and Dark of it"

Here are the preliminary plans:

More will come in the January 15th Newsletter.

You will have from January 15th to February 15th to sign up.
$14.99/month for 9 months. You come in for the 10 month with 9 completed blocks you will get your sashing, backing and a magazine for free. The quilt will be approximately 36x36 when finished! If you do not have your blocks finished you will have to pay $14.99 for the 10 month also.

Pick from the following color schemes:
Red/Black
Black/White
Christmas
Marbles (give us your favorite colors in general)
Batiks
Patriotic

Each month you will get a block pattern, the fabric you need to make the block and a time that you can come in to work on your block or get some help. (I promise all the blocks are easy!)

Find My Fabric

Have you ever been working on a project from your stash when you run out of that one fabric. You go back to your favorite quilt store and they sadly tell you that sold out six months ago. Yes the hazards of using stash.....lol

You sit down at your computer and start searching. You wish there was somewhere you can go to find your fabric that you want.

Well there are alot of them! Here's the first one!

When you go to find my fabric you can search for those hard to find fabrics! It will tell you what online stores you can buy it! There is also a feature if you do not know what it is called you can upload a picture. I have not tried the picture feature but I have searched for fabrics.

My New Project......Week 2

My sock is growing!

I am kinda glad for the first time in my life I have a kid's sized foot! lol

So in this picture I have the leg done and the heel flap. Since the picture I have turned the heel. My goal this week is to finish my last Christmas scarf and start the second sock to the same spot so that on Saturday I can learn how to finish the sock.

Stay tuned to how my sock grows..........lol (sounds like a bad soap opera.....lol)

Happy Sunday!

So what did you do without a Steeler game to watch.

I finished long arming a customer's quilt. I also got half of one pinned on to start next week. Now It's paperwork time for the store. Hopefully, I will have time to wrap a few gifts and then knit tonight.

So this week we got some GREAT fabrics in!

This first picture is of the two bolts of Generals Wives we were able to get in! Man I am still upset about not being able to get more in <sigh>.

The next is a lone yellow bolt with white dots. I think we have some coordinates, but I can't remember! lol

Now the next set I am so excited to show you. We got a special from Quilting Treasures/VIP and we are passing the savings along to you! The fabrics you see in this photo are priced to sell at $7.00/yd. You know you cannot get fabrics of this quality that cheap right now! Grab these while you can!

My new Project.

Ok it's not quilting. I have those on my to do list. You might even get to participate in one if I get my butt moving over the next few weeks. Hint Hint Hint. maybe an blog mystery quilt? hmmmmmmm we'll see.........lol

As you know if you have been reading the blog. I started knitting this summer. This is the latest project that I am doing. Ok. I have not gotten far in one day, yes this is what i had done last Sunday when I took the picture. I have a goal for the next class which is tomorrow. I'll take a picture again then so you can see my process.

This is my first pair of knitted socks! I am trying to stay positive and say socks......lol If not Abbie or bernie might have a new hat for christmas if i only do one........lol You probably can't tell that is a sock yet. Like I said give me until the next class........lol

The yarn I am using is Lion Brand Sock Ease. 75% wool, 25% nylon with aloe.

We have about 5 different colors stocked if you still need to do some Christmas gifts! Pattern is on the ball of yarn. So come on in and make your feet a gift!

Just a Quilt.........Sequal

Happy Thursday.

It's almost the end of the week!

If you remember a few months ago we had a book signing event at the store.
We were honored to have Author Dalen Keys and his wife Mitzie in the store reading, signing and showing us their book, Just a Quilt and the quilt/pattern that went with the book!

Did you read it? I did at least twice..........lol

Here is a picture of Mom, Me, Dalen and Mitzie with the quilt we did from the pattern.

Exciting news is that Dalen has released his sequal! The Mess is the second in the series. I have not read it yet but am excited to order my copy!

The little blurb that Dalen sent us is the following:

Cancellation of the Generals Wives BOM

Hi everyone!

I am very disappointed to have to announce that the BOM that we had scheduled for 2012 has been cancelled. We cannot get the fabric in that we need to do the project.

I will take partial blame for this. I am still learning when and how to order inventory and to do things that you probably take for granted if you shop at a store that has been in business for more than a decade.

I will admit I might have waited to long to order the fabric.

However, Windham Fabrics also did not order enough of the line produced, so therefore our order has been cancelled.

I am very disappointed since I was going to share the project with Mom. Oh well.

Now we are thinking about some different choices of what we can still do. At the top is a mystery block of the month. You come in and pick X number of fabrics out of a line. Maybe the 30's? Maybe black and white or a fairy frost. You choose those fabrics and we give you a mystery block each month. We will give you the time to come work on them in the store if you like or maybe not........lol Have no idea the price or any more details other than the ideas bouncing around like rocks in my head.

We will let you know as soon as we know what we are doing! If you have any ideas share them. Just remember, this late in the year we might not be able to get the fabric, make a sample and promote it to you. Ok, I think mystery BOM is in the lead........lol

Success Stories..........

Happy Tuesday all,

Today I will show you some of the latest success stories.

First is a small embroidery I did for one of our kids 101 students. It's an embroidery library design! I dont' get a lot of time to embroidery but this one turned out really nice!

Next we have a purse done by one of our customers!

Next, is a couple of towels one of our customers did for Christmas gifts. What a great idea and how amazing how just a small piece of your favorite fabric can jazz up a plain towel for a gift!

Next is a quilting job by Mary on her Bear Paw Class! You might have to look closely, but those are hearts all over the quilt! All done on the Fusion Pro Stitcher!

Next is my successful Quilting job. Usually, in my longarming I enjoy just meandering. I can relax and just do whatever. However, every once in awhile customers want fancy stuff. Check out Nancy's quilt! First Awesome job by Nancy and second I think I did a decent job on the quilting.............lol

If I have repeated any of these pictures for success stories I apologize. Sometimes I forget to clear the folder of stuff I need to do........lol

Next is a finished project from the Six Halves class!

Finally, we have some inspiration for you ladies who are doing the Shop Hop Blocks. If you do not want to do the big quilt here are some table runners that a customer made instead! What a great idea! You could make a bed runner, table runner, or placemats with your blocks!

Charity Project!

Evening all!

I have a new charity challenge for you!

You all did soooooo well helping out the troops now it's time to help FLM Haiti's mission house!

One of our good customers, Mary, is involved in the charity. In January, she will be traveling to Haiti to help open the newest Mission house. The goal is to have a quilt for every bed. She still needs to do four quilts out of the 21. This is where we come in! Bring in a 15" Scrappy Block by January 7th, 2012 so that she can sew them together and make her quilts quickly. You make it anything you want. Make it bright colors because the Haitians love bright colors!

What a lot of people do not know is that before the earthquake Haiti was a country in trouble. Today, yes they are rebuilding but they still need the help of others. Let's do what we love, making quilts, and help those who are in need!

What's New @ Quilters Depot

Happy Sunday.

As I write this the Penguins won last night and the Steelers seem to be tromping all over the Cinnci Bengels so all is good in the sports world of Pittsburgh........lol If they lose it in the last few minutes do not blame me for jinxing them! lol

What's new! Well we got some backordered Moda Marbles in. The two shades of Red that we have been out of are finally in!

We also got about 15 bolts of white on whites in! Aren't they pretty!

We also got this really pretty pink batik in. There should be a few more of this line of batiks coming in, but not sure when!

Have you seen the new Knitpick needles?

I know Santa is bringing me a set of the interchangeable ones for Christmas! They come in interchangeable, DPN's and sets of 10" and 14" singles. They are the nicest needles! Come in and check them out. If there is any needle or notion from KnitPicks that you wuold like other than the yarn let us know and we will order for you!

What Classes Would you like to see repeated?

Happy Last day of November!

Actually if you are on a fiscal year ending on 11/30 like we are at the bank. It's the last day of the year! Ok actually that's not a good thing.........lol Accoutants out there will know what I'm talking about. 3 weeks of horrible horrible h*ll starts tomorrow..........lol

Oh well. Let's talk about more pleasing things. Have there been classes that are longer than 2 weeks that you have missed that you would like repeated in 2012. These are the classes that are a little bit too long to have on demand.

If there have let me know and I will con, ummmm I mean ask them to repeat them........lol

Radiant Star - This was a six week class if I remember right. Mom's is still hanging in the store. This is Andrae's sample

Or how about the Bear Paw Class?
8 weeks but you learn some really great skills in this class!

Would you like us to repeat the class we just finished for Christmas but do it in other colors. The six halves class?

Or how about the BedRunner class?

In the knitting world is there something you want specifically. Hats again, socks again, snowman again, sweaters, afghans. You tell me and I'll pass on to Heather to give her ideas!

Ok. I think those are the classes I can remember I wanted to ask you about, but if there are others then you let me know!

Favorite Embroidery sites

Last week I introduced you to my favorite Machine Embroidery site, Stitch it Cheap.

I have others also.

My number two site that I go to when I'm looking for embroidery designs is Embroidery Library. is probably my number two site to go to. http://www.emblibrary.com/ One of the things I love about them is that you can go back into your history and get your designs if you lose them.........lol

The other reason I love Embroidery Library are the projects. If you go into the library of projects you can find almost anything to make. When I am down on ideas that's where I go. From in the hoop projects to Lace, it is the best place to get inspiration and the instructions you need to make gifts!

You can also find a lot of hints and helps through out the site!

I Fail Today at blogging!

I will admit I have kinda fallen down on planning blogs for the week. We will see what we come up with.

It doesn't always have to be about Quilting and the store? Does it?

So instead of unloading the camera today. (ok I won't lie I don't know what I did with it. I have to go search my purse. I have a feeling it's still at the store though) I made Christmas Candy.

Sometimes you just hae to put the long arming and the quilting and the paperwork aside and do other stuff.

I figured if I did not get the candy done my friends would de-friend me not only on facebook but in real life too........lol

So that's what today's blog is about. Me not writing a blog because I did candy...........lol

I am married (25 years this December 9th). I have two children, both adults Ash & Brian jr. NO grandchildren yet:-( I also have my two girls (my dogs) Darli (Dachshund) & Tali (Beagle). We also have the worlds oldest & crankiest cat Magic who just turned 16 this year. I enjoy spending time with my family & we love holiday's with all the little kids in the family. I am also a NASCAR junkie. LOVE Dale Jr! Go 88!

6) Who else helps you? How do you find your designs?

Ashley my daughter has come on recently as a part time digitizer. She also does some of our artwork but she does not have much time to do that for us since she is a full time student in a nursing program.
Tech support is my son Brian Jr. If I have any computer issues he is the guy I call.

7) Tease us with upcoming ideas if you can.

We have a really fun scarf idea that hopefully will be up next week. We are in full blown holiday designs now. We have some fun takes on the 12 days of Christmas & Ash is even doing the lettering of the poem for us.

8) Tell us about the history CD’s that you are doing.

I decided that since I was getting asked a lot for past designs that had been retired for some time that I would bring them out & dust them off & get them onto CD's. Over the 7+ years I have done literally thousands and thousands of designs. This collection is great for those who want the full collection in a nice collectible case. It is a great hard copy as well. As we all know that hard drives have that tendency to crash when we least expect it!
It is also a great Christmas present for yourself:-)

9) Finally, anything miscellaneous you would want prospective or current embroiderer to know!

We plan on being around for at least another 7 years. We are continuing to grow & I think there are only bigger & better things on the horizon for us.

What's New!

Hi

I'm going to change my schedule up a little so that you get to see the new fabrics that came in. That way if you are out shopping on Friday (and if you are shop with us too!. if your not then you better be sewing circling and UFO'ing with us!)

The first are flames and kitty cats by Alexander Henry!

The second are some Blank Quilting 108"! We are getting them in. We apologize on the back order situation. We know you love them and want them we just cannot ever tell you when they will be in.....lol

Ok, lastly I will post my favorite new fabrics, however some of you might be offended. Mom did not want me to put this on the blog, but I am anyhow! Please be open minded and remember that if these were truly offensive then they wouldn't sell them. Yes, I am going with that excuse. These are my men fabrics. We have construction men, firemen, i like to call them nerdy heart men, camping men and cowboys. They are dressed just scantily. The picture is not in detail but you will understand what kind of fabrics these are. These are already selling fast so if you are like me and want to make pillow cases for friends then come in and don't be embarrassed! These fabrics are fun! We are all adults, but yes they are hidden back by the Christmas fabrics........lol

Success Stories!

Wow! I have sooooo many to show you!

Now you know I am always proud of all of you who finish things, but I'm going to start with my younger ones first today. They probably won't read this because I have a feeling the don't follow my blog........lol

We are nearing the end of our first session of kids 101! These are the quilts that belong to our two newest quilters. Awesome work Liz an Annalise! Andrae and I are very proud of you! Keep up the good work and you will be done in no time!

Do you have a youngster who wants to learn toquilt. watch the newsletter classes will be starting again I think in February!

Next we have Christine's Pillow Case Dress! Done in two hours! You too can make this dress for a doll or a little girl in your life!

Next up are our Yo Yo Santa's! Awesome work to Donna, JoAnn, Janet and Fran!

Last but not least here are our latest success stories for November's BOM! There is still one class left but these are Peggy's, MaryAnn's and Jackie's Blocks! I won't show you the silly pics we took just their blocks!

TGIF to all of you out there!

Today we will keep it light and short since I have given you a lot of informaton this week!

Top Notions: Final Post!

Now I will warn you this might be a longer blog than usual, because I saved my favorite for last.

As a long armer, there are so many different threads I could use. When I began, I was stupid and naive and used threads that will remain nameless. The quality of the thread will make or break your long arming experience.

A lot of the cheaper threads will cause you to have fuzz which will gunk up your machines. They fray and cause tension issues.

So you say, what do you use Jenn. I use Superior Threads www.superiorthreads.com

I love the colors! I love the quality! I have met the President Bob Purcell and he is truly one of the good guys. If you ever have the chance to hear his school of threadology, do whatever, but make sure you attend! You will have a new appreciation for thread! This is one of those companies that the customer service is a joy to work with!

Right now we carry:
So Fine - Can be used for Quilting and some Embroidery

Bottom Line - Can be used For Quilting, Embroidery, bobbin, binding and applique

Rainbow: Used for Embroidery and Quilting. Rainbow is exactly what you are thinking. It is a rainbow of variegated of colors!

Treasure: This is hand quilting thread only.

Alex Anderson's Masterpiece: This thread is Egyptian cotton at it's best! Masterpiece can be used for your machine piecing.

I have not mentioned mono poly, king tut, or all the notions that Superior carries! I could go on and on about all the new products that they are getting in! Our goal is to continue to grow my Superior line. I would like to bring the new So Fine in that is variegated like the rainbow but a little thicker for long arm quilting. I would like to start bringing more colors of all the threads in and the other lines that they do have. Give me time and you tell me what you want and I will try to bring more and more Superior in!

Top Notions: More Thread!

We are a little bit different from other quilt stores in the fact we carry more notions and threads than other stores.

This maybe why we have so many Top Notions that are threads......lol Everyone has their favorites and you know I try very hard to keep you happy!

Now our good standby thread if you do not want to spend a lot of money or are just doing quick projects is the trustworthy Coats and Clark. Not only do we have the all purpose line of threads from Coats and Clark.

We also have the Star Machine Quilting Egyptian Cotton. Also made by Coats and Clark it is the next level higher in piecing thread. Always make sure you are grabbing the correct Star thread. Never use the handquilting in your machine. It will gum it up and you will have to take your favorite machine and beg your technician to fix it and you will be out your baby! We are carrying the basic colors. As always ask and we will order other colors!

Now, here is a hint. If you have been quilting for years you know this, but if you are newer you might not. Your machine might not like a certain type of thread. Experiement and find your machine's favorite!

Top Notions: Printed Treasures

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Today we are going to talk about one of my most Favorite notions of all time!

Printed Treasures! If you have been in the store you have seen my opening night @the Consol quilt. I took only a handful of the pictures I took that night of the Penguins and the arena and made a quilt. Those were all printed on Printed Treasures.

Yes, they are other brands of the printable fabric paper, but I truley think Printed Treasures is the best!

There is nothing like taking the memories you have captured and creating a truley personal gift for someone! It also gets around the problem that sometimes you cannot find the fabric you want. Come on NHL; we want Penguin fabric! lol

If you ever want to try the fabric you let me know and we will give you a personal Happy Hour. My next goal is i would like to design an all over design and print several sheets of it and make my own fabric!
